Caroline Edgeton-Martin, M.S.Ed., Resident in Counseling
Psychotherapist
Caroline understands that discussing challenging thoughts and feelings can be difficult, often leading to feelings of loneliness, shame, and disconnection. She believes that no one should have to navigate these emotions alone and is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment. Her goal is to create a brave space where clients can feel safe and vulnerable without fear of judgment.
Caroline employs a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach to counseling, working with adolescents, teens, adults, couples, and families. As a Person-Centered therapist, she collaborates closely with clients to create personalized treatment plans that align with their unique needs and goals. She specializes in supporting individuals who identify as or are questioning their identity within the LGBTQIA+ community, relationship/couples counseling, and trauma healing. Caroline's experience includes working with neurodiverse individuals and individuals who report struggling with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, and family or religious trauma.
Her therapeutic toolbox encompasses various modalities, including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Family Systems Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Caroline often incorporates mindfulness and somatically based interventions to facilitate deeper connections between the mind and body, thereby enhancing the therapeutic experience. She is committed to affirming LGBTQIA+ identities, gender-affirming care, and practices of ethical and consensual non-monogamy.
Caroline completed her BA in English and Journalism from Wake Forest University and earned her M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. Her studies were informed by a multicultural perspective, emphasizing the importance of serving LGBTQIA+ individuals and providing mental health care to underserved communities. Currently, she is a resident in counseling, working towards her LPC licensure in Virginia.
Since joining Total Health Concepts, Caroline has grown in her experience supporting individuals, couples, and families navigating eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. She integrates psychotherapy and holistic therapeutic frameworks to foster resilience, healing, and lasting well-being.
Caroline sees in-person clients in Vienna, VA and virtual clients located around Virginia.
